A boy who is in second grade will join, or advance to, the Wolf Cub level.  To receive the Wolf Cub Rank, the Scout must complete 12 achievements.  After completing the Wolf Trail, a Scout may earn gold and silver arrow points by completing additional activities.

A boy who is in third grade will join, or advance to, the Bear Cub level. To earn the Bear Badge, a Cub Scout must complete 12 achievements out of a possible 24 that are offered in the book. The achievements are grouped in 4 major areas, GOD, COUNTRY, FAMILY, and SELF.

A boy who is in fourth or fifth grade will join, or advance to, the WEBELOS level.  The WEBELOS program is designed to prepare the Cub Scout for advancing to Boy Scouts.  There are 20 activity badges that can be earned in the WEBELOS program.  The 20 activity badges are organized into five activity badge groups: Physical Skills, Mental Skills, Community, Technology, and Outdoor.  The Scout receives a pin for completing each activity badge. Pins are displayed on the WEBELOS colors, which are the gold, green, and red ribbons worn on the right sleeve.
The WEBELOS Badge (Patch) is earned by completing Citizenship, Fitness, and one other activity badge of the Scout's choice from the Mental Skills, Technology, or Outdoor Group along with other requirements.
The Arrow of Light is the highest achievement that can be earned in Cub Scouting.  It is earned by completing specific requirements in preparation for joining Boy Scouts in addition to the WEBELOS badge.
