A boy, with his adult partner, may join
Cub Scouts at any time in first through fifth grade. The scouting year
generally coincides with the school year, with a kick-off pack meeting in
late August or early September. Pack 560 remains active through the
summer with camping and parade activities.
A boy who is in first grade will begin Scouting at the Tiger Cub level. To receive the Tiger Cub rank, the
Scout must complete five achievements: 1. Making My Family Special, 2. Where
I Live, 3. Keeping Myself Healthy and Safe, 4. How I Tell It, and 5. Lets Go
Outdoors.
A boy who is in second grade will join,
or advance to, the Wolf Cub level. To receive the Wolf Cub Rank, the Scout
must complete 12 achievements. After completing the Wolf Trail, a
Scout may earn gold and silver arrow points by completing additional
activities.
A boy who is in third grade will join, or advance to, the Bear
Cub level. To earn the Bear Badge, a Cub Scout must complete 12
achievements out of a possible 24 that are offered in the book. The
achievements are grouped in 4 major areas, GOD, COUNTRY, FAMILY, and SELF.
A boy who is in fourth or fifth grade
will join, or advance to, the WEBELOS level. The WEBELOS program is
designed to prepare the Cub Scout for advancing to Boy Scouts. There
are 20 activity badges that can be earned in the WEBELOS program. The
20 activity badges are organized into five activity badge groups: Physical
Skills, Mental Skills, Community, Technology, and Outdoor. The
Scout receives a pin for completing each activity badge. Pins are displayed
on the WEBELOS colors, which are the gold, green, and red ribbons worn on
the right sleeve.
The WEBELOS Badge (Patch) is earned by
completing Citizenship, Fitness, and one other activity badge of the Scout's
choice from the Mental Skills, Technology, or Outdoor Group along with other requirements.
The Arrow of Light is
the highest achievement that can be earned in Cub Scouting. It is earned by
completing specific requirements in preparation for joining Boy Scouts in addition to the WEBELOS badge.
